Soldier Care Packages – What to Pack and Why

Support the troops is a phrase that bandied about so easily and carelessly these days that it's almost lost its meaning. One of the best ways to truly let the service men and women who are serving in the military is with the personal touch of a care package. But what should one pack in soldier care packages? Here are some suggestions for care package items.

First and foremost are personal letters. Soldiers love to get mail from home and they love to share their mail with their fellow soldiers. For their own protection you will want to exclude the last names and addresses of any letters or packages sent from children.

As for the other items to pack in your soldier care packages there are some basic things to think about. While food is one of the most popular items you should also think about relieving bodies in extreme temperatures and relieving boredom during down time. Here is a list of some toiletries that are always in demand:

-extremely dry skin lotion

-athletes foot powder or cream

-eye drops

-nasal spray

-baby powder

-baby wipes

-sanitizing gels

-cushioned shoe insoles

– Insect repellent (wipes or gels only)

-room fresheners

* Note-be sure to put any painted or liquid items in sealable zip-lock bags

For food items home-made goods are always the best but keep in mind that they could be traveling for up to three or four weeks and all items need to be well contained in air-tight packages or baggies. There are many pre-packaged foods that travel well and keep for months if not opened. Some of the most requested food items are:

-beef jerky or Slim Jims (no pork products for soldiers serving in Muslim countries)

-tuna fish in a pouch

-any additives to add flavor to water like Kool-Aid, Gatorade, Crystal Light, iced tea mix, etc

-dried fruits

-hard candy

-protein bars

-soup in a cup

-fruit or pudding cups (make sure pudding is non-refrigerated kind)

-chocolates (but only between the months of October-April as temperatures can reach up to 130 and beyond in some countries)

* Note-don't forget plastic silverware with food items and make sure any liquid items are sealed in sealable zip-lock bags and do not ship any glass containers or alcohol products

For relieving boredom one might consider packing a few of the following:

-DVDs or video games

-playing cards

-travel games

-puzzles or puzzle books

-darts or mini golf putting greens

-Nerf balls

-disposable cameras

Some other nice touches are pre-paid phone cards, batteries, sewing kits, and socks, towels, and washcloths. So, send a soldier a little love from home and send a care package today!

Making Air Travel a Breeze- Part 2 – Getting to Your Flight

While navigating airport security has obviously become more complicated in recent years, you can still get to your flight quickly and without hassle. If you have an understanding of the current airport procedures before you travel and pack your bags accordingly, you probably will not even notice the issues that cause problems for so many travelers.

Like any other aspect of the travel process, the key to navigating airport security quickly and easily is preparation. Therefore, it's a good idea to organize your alliances before arriving at the airport so that you can move as efficiently as possible through the security process. Here are a number of suggestions to help you through security and onto your flight:

o Dress appropriately – Make sure you avoid wearing metal when traveling. This includes everything from belt buckles and shirts with metal snaps to under-wire bras. If you are wearing any type of metal jewelry, place the items in your carry-on baggage until you have cleared security.

o Have your documents ready – As you approach the security checkpoint, keep your photo ID, passport and boarding pass in hand to avoid delays.

o Be prepared to remove your shoes – Airport rules now require all passengers to remove their shoes and place them on the conveyor to be x-rayed. Do not argue with personnel about this procedure; you will be inspected more thoroughly if you do, at risk of missing your flight.

o Clean out your pockets – Place everything from keys and loose change to cell phones and PDAs in your carry-on baggage before approaching the checkpoint. By removing as many items as you can from your person, you drastically reduce the possibility of setting off a metal detector.

o Charge your batteries – When you place laptop computers and other electronic devices on the x-ray conveyor, you may be asked to prove that the devices are functional. If you are unable to turn on any of your devices, you are guaranteed an additional delay.

o Follow the rule of 3-1-1 – Concerned toiletries – especially gels and liquids like toothpaste and shampoo – you are only allowed to carry on bottles that are three ounces or smaller. All of your toilets must fit into one quart-size zip-lock bag. This single bag must then be removed from your luggage and placed on the conveyor to be x-rayed. Any items in containers larger than three ounces will be confiscated.

o Verify your prescriptions – Make sure all medications are in their original bottles with your name listed. You certainly do not want to have essential medications come under scrutiny.
o Do not complain – If airport security requests to search any of your bags, cooperate and be friendly. In all likelihood, you were chosen at random for an additional search and are not the victim of profiling or any other suspicion. It has also been advertised at checkpoints recently that the security area is a "sarcasm-free zone." It is the responsibility of airport security to take all threats, jokes and complaints seriously. Simply, act calm and respectful while passing through security and you will not experience any problems.

o If you do not need it on the plane, check it – Removing clutter from your carry-on bag will allow screeners to process your luggage more quickly. Furthermore, as there are strict limits on liquids and gels, it is a good idea to place all nonessential items inside a checked bag.

o Understand your itinerary – If you are traveling to the Caribbean, you might be asked about your travel plans by customs personnel. Make sure everyone in your traveling party knows the details of your flights and the name of your resort. If customs personnel hear conflicting details about your itinerary, you may have to sit through additional questioning.

o Check the restricted items list before heading to the airport – While pretty much everyone is aware that weapons and explosive materials are hidden on planes, there are plenty of items that you might not know are restricted. However, if you have something like a pocket knife or lighter in your possession, you can still place it in your checked baggage before proceeding to the checkpoint.

If you know what to expect when approaching airport security, you will not have any problems. More importantly, you will not cause yourself any unnecessary delays and will always make your flights with time to spare.

Can not Send Email While Traveling

Scenario: You are a business person traveling around the world. You just got to your hotel room, turned on your laptop pc and are ready to answer to those very important emails that arrived while you were on the plane. So, you open your Outlook, Thunderbird or whatever email client you have, and start answering first the most important messages. Once you finish, you click on the "Send" button, totally confident and relieved because you needed that mail sent with extreme urgence. Oh no … what happened? You received one of these errors: smtp 550 error Unable to relay to user relaying denied mailbox unavailable or not local Server Error: 550 Error Number: 0x800CCC79 553 sorry, that domain is not in my list of allowed rcpthosts Server Error: 553 Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Why does this happen only when you are traveling?

Most Internet providers use two protocols to send and receive mails: SMTP and POP. SMTP (or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the one used to send email out. When you are home, you are connected to your ISP network. Since you are already in that network, you will not have problems to use your ISP's SMTP server. But when you are in that hotel room you may have problems doing it, since you might be connecting from a different ISP network. So, it is pretty normal that you can not send emails from a different location

So, What Can You Do About That Relaying Denied Error?

There are many things to do. You could check if it is possible to enable the authentication when connecting to that SMTP server, so you can tell him "I am not a spammer" and be able to send emails wherever you want. You could also use web mail, but I am sure it is not the same, when you have all your emails well organized in your Outlook folders.

Going back to our scenario, maybe it is 1 am and you can not contact anyone to check about the SMTP authentication or webmail. Is there another option? A very valid solution to your email sending problems is: smtp2go.

Eggs – Milk and Cheese in Your Low-Fat Cholesterol

Each egg yolk contains about 213 milligrams of cholesterol. It is a known fact that egg yolks are high in dietary cholesterol and they should be limited to no more than 4 yolks per week. This includes the amount of egg yolks contained in any processed foods or baked goods. Ask the bakery if the recipe uses whole eggs and check the label to see just how much cholesterol the food contains. Limit these types of foods just for some occasional triats.

You can substitute egg yolks with egg whites in your recipes since they have no cholesterol. In place of whole egg, you can also use a cholesterol-free egg substitute. You do not really have to worry about the taste since in many baked goods, you can not tell the difference.

Milk and cheese group

Just like high fat meats, regular dairy products that have fat are also high in cholesterol and saturated fat. 2 percent milk, ice cream and cheese are regular dairy foods that have a lot of fat. Even though it is important to limit the amount of regular dairy products, you should know that these products are an important source of nutrients. You should eat no more than 2 or 3 servings per day or non-fat or low fat dairy products. A small guide to buying nonfat and low fat dairy foods is listed below:

Rather than buying whole or 2 percent milk, but either fat free or 1 percent. Remember that 1 percent or fat free milk contain the same amount of calcium and other nutrients as whole milk, the only difference being that they have a smaller quantity of saturated fat and cholesterol.

Go for fat free, reduced fat, low fat or part skim cheese whenever you go looking for hard cheeses. It is recommended that you only chose those varieties that have 3 grams of fat or less per ounce.

When you are looking for soft cheeses, look for the low fat (1 percent or less), non fat cottage cheese, part-skim or light ricotta versions. Some of these cheeses have 3 grams of fat or less per ounce.

Choose lower sodium cheeses if you are watching your sodium intake. Compare the sodium intake content by reading the label of several cheese products.

Frozen dairy desserts

Remember to always buy frozen desserts that have a lower intake of saturated fat such as low fat frozen yogurt, ice milk, low fat frozen dairy desserts, sorbets, fruit ices and Popsicles.

Convenient And Affordable Car Parks

There is nothing more convenient that affordable car parks at area airports. In fact, these venues play a pivotal role in most passenger arrivals and departures. When it comes to finding the right venue to meet your needs, you have to decide whether you want to park your vehicle inside the terminal or outside. No matter which option you choose, you are guaranteed timely and professional services across the board.

Terminal car lots tend to cost a bit more than those outside and adjacent to the airport. However, these services offer the same security and protection as outer lots. This includes camera surveillance day and night, along with security guards and even infrared alarms. Inner lots also offer vehicle maintenance for upon request. This, of course, is for passengers that will be traveling on extensive holidays or business trips.

Outer lots are surely a lot cheaper than terminal parks. In fact, these venues are considered economic parking, which may not include all the amenities as premium lots. However, shuttle services are available around the clock. This ensures all passengers make their flights on time and without any hassle or aggravation. Outer lots are known as park and fly in the industry, and are extremely convenient for all domestic and international passengers.

Some lots offer premium maintenance services for extended stay cars. This includes checking the battery, along with tire pressure. Passengers, of course, will have to leave their keys with local attendants. This does not mean that these professionals will abuse or drive your car around at will. This is against the law, and all vehicles are monitored by central dispatchers and command.

Airport car parks continue to soar in global popularity. From Intercontinental Airport in Houston to London Heathrow, these venues are designed to facilitate countless vehicles. There are always handicap accessible spots available, along with plenty of room for large vans, buses, trucks, SUVs, and even motorcycles. If requested, covered parking is available as well. These are great for passengers that do not want their cars being stained by torrential downpours and storms.

Passengers requiring immediate pickup and drop off can call in ahead of time. If there is enough room, they may be able to secure convenient spaces next to shuttle pickup. Local drivers drop off passengers to all domestic and international terminals. While it is not a requirement, tipping the driver is a great way to say thank you for his or her prompt, timely and professional services.

With convenient automobile parking, you never have to worry about missing your flight. In fact, if you are running a few minutes late, the lot can arrange expedited shuttle services to your terminal. They will even contact the terminal and air carrier that you are on your way. This is truly the best way to fly without worrying about finding parking spots close to the airport.

Cheap Hotels

Really cheap hotels in Paris or New York may be hard to come by. But outside of Europe and North America there are some great accommodation options on offer for the budget traveler looking for a bit of luxury.

And let's face it, traveling is pretty hard work. Although backpackers hostels may be the cheapest choice, there are times when you want to have a long shower all to yourself, put the air-conditioning on, and curl up in a beautifully made bed … After attacking the mini-bar, that is!

When it comes to price, many people seem to stick to the rule of thumb that 'if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is'. Hotels that offer a host of wonderful facilities, and are still really cheap, may cause a few alarm bells to ring. 'It can not be good if it's that cheap', people seem to say …

But, if this may occasion prove to be the case, then here are a few cheap hotels around the world that really are that good:

Siem Reap Riverside Hotel, Cambodia

With Angkor Wat, one of the world's most exquisite monuments on its doorstep, you've got to think that accommodation at the Siem Reap Riverside Hotel would be seriously expensive. It's not the case, however. This charming place offers double rooms from around EUR4 ($ 6) a night.

The hotel will even help arrange transport to the wonderful Khmer temples. And in the evenings after a long, hot day of sightseeing you can sit out and have a drink on their beautiful flowery terrace.

Villa Serena Margarita Island, Venezuela

Margarita is, generally speaking, the domain of large, expensive resort-style hotels. But the Villa Serena is a family-run place with a warm, comfortable vibe. And with prices from about EUR15 ($ 21) a night, it means you can spend a few extra days lounging around on the nearby beach.

Venus Hotel, Pamukkale, Turkey

At just a shade over EUR6 ($ 9), and with a pool thrown in, the Venus Hotel has got to be one of the best offers in Turkey. Everything is very carefully put together, and the place has an intimate feel. What's more, the word's beginning to get out about the homemade meals that they provide to hungry guests.

Tibetan Lodge, Dali, Yunnan, China

There are cheap hotels, and then there's the Tibetan Lodge. Plenty of places in China fall under the 'budget' category, but few are as beautiful and lavishly decorated (in traditional fashion) as the Tibetan Lodge. Most important of all, though, it's spotlessly clean. And from a trifling EUR4 ($ 6) a night, it's got the luxury a footsore traveler could possibly need.

Hotel Kaoba, Cabarete, Dominican Republic

At the Hotel Kaoba, in the paradisiacal country of the Dominican Republic, EUR12 (EUR17) goes a long way. In fact, you get a lovely two person bungalow set amidst a tropical garden. Not that you'll spend much time in it! The beach town of Cabarete is full of great restaurants and bars. And during the day there are fantastic opportunities for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Choose a Recruitment Agency That Offers Great Jobs for Graduates

Many new graduates are often at a loss when they’re deciding where and how to apply to jobs. Decades ago, a new graduate would only have to submit a CV and cover letter to the hiring manager. Currently, not only is everything submitted through an online system, but each company or industry favors different application methods. Fortunately, new graduates have the option of choosing a recruitment agency to help them find a job in their chosen field.

Recruitment agencies work with a large number of companies in different industries. By spending their time researching the company’s needs and talking with the hiring managers, recruiters have a keen understanding of what the company is looking for. The knowledge recruitment agents have is often knowledge that the normal job seeking graduate doesn’t have. While obtaining this knowledge is a key factor why a new graduate should work with a recruitment agency, there are also other important factors to keep in mind.

First, it’s important that you choose a recruitment agency that actually works with the industries you’re interested in. All recruitment agencies will have websites, offices, or brochures that explain the background of their company and what services they offer. It’s important to research the company and make sure their contacts correlate to your interests.

Second, if the agency has a list of job vacancies, search for ones that might interest you. While the agency might state that they work with certain industries, it’s still necessary to see what types of jobs they have available. The agency might allow you to submit a general CV and cover letter, but it’s preferable to apply to a couple of specific positions.

Third, it’s important to work closely with a recruiter. There are thousands of new graduates each year and they’re all looking for ways to distinguish themselves. If you attend an initial interview with the recruiter, remember to sell yourself! Don’t lie or embellish your skills, but don’t act humble. Let the recruiter know what you’re capable of so they can match you up with a great job.

Fourth, if you land an interview at a company, talk with a recruiter to learn about the position. As stated, recruiters often have inside information about the company that could help you in an interview. Ask them about the company, the interview process, and the specifics of the job. They will probably be able to provide you with information you never would have thought to research. Don’t be afraid to be inquisitive! It will only help you in the end.

Recruitment agencies specialize in helping new graduates find steady jobs. Searching for job vacancies is time consuming and often aggravating, and by using a recruitment agency, graduates can eliminate this tedious process. When choosing a recruitment agency, remember to research your options. As a new graduate, you need to find a recruitment agency that understands your career requirements. Once you find that recruitment agency and start working with a recruiter, you’ll be receiving interviews in no time!

Private Rentals For Vacations

I love to travel, it is my favorite thing to do and it is my favorite topic of conversation. I travel more than the average person, but I do not spend all of my time on the road like a traveling salesperson would. I travel for vacation, for fun. If I am traveling somewhere by plane I generally like to plan an extended stay because plane tickets are not cheap, and if I am going to spend a lot of money just to get somewhere I want to stay a while.

Have you ever spent two weeks in a motel room while on vacation? Me neither and I do not want to ever do so. The longest I have spent in a motel room while on vacation was 10 days. It was a pretty small room, but hey, I was on vacation and I did not spend a lot of time in my room anyway. The one thing I hated above all others though was having to go out for my morning coffee. Granted, all I had to do was go down to the lobby and pour myself a cup, but I still did not like doing that before I was even awake, let alone dressed and primped for the day. These days most motels have an in room coffee pot, which is a vast improvement in my book.

But even away from the coffee in the morning issue, after 10 days in a motel room and having to go out for every meal I was ready for my own cooking, or for something as simple as making a sandwich and grabbing a bag of chips and parking myself in front of the tv for a midday break. Not to mention the expense of eating three meals a day out. When I vacation I like to spend my money on what I want to, not what I have to. So if I can spend $ 200 for a week feeding my husband and myself I like that much better than spending $ 200 for two days of eating out.

Now some people will argue with me here, because they feel that going on vacation is about eating out, not in. And I do agree to a point. I do not eat every meal in just because I can, but I really like having that option. Here's one of my biggest reasons: My husband and I try to watch our weight and that is very hard to do when you are eating out three times a day. We try to split meals when we go out, but there are times we just do not feel like eating the same thing. And then we feel obliged to eat it all because we are paying for it and then we end up fat. I have a hard enough time staying trim without gaining weight every time I go on vacation. If you have food allergies that is an even more compelling reason to want to cook in more often.

Not only do I like the kitchen options that come with staying in a place other than a motel, I also like having a separate bedroom. If there is more than one person in the room, chances are their sleeping habits are not exactly in sync. With a house or condo, your roommate will not keep you up with the tv or stereo going or wake you up too early just because they are up. And if you are vacationing with a family this is the only way to go in my opinion. Kids can have their own bedroom and if they are still small you will have less of a disruption with their schedule if you can make things as much like home as possible.

When you factor in all of the cost associated with a motel versus a condo or private rental, the condo will usually win hands down. Many people compare just the cost of the room without taking into consideration the amount you will be saving in food costs in which case the hotel option will make much more sense.

A lot of times if you are only going for a weekend or a long weekend, renting a house or condo may not make as much sense, but even then, I have come to prefer a condo over a hotel stay for even one night. The exception for me is if I am on a road trip and I am checking into a hotel in the evening and checking out in the morning, I will not bother getting a condo or private rental. In this instance, the cost outweighs the benefits. The cost savings for a condo or private rental really come into play when you are staying a week or more.

How do you go about finding condo's or private rentals when you are going on vacation? Well, you could buy a timeshare, that will open a lot of options for you. You will then have access to your own condo as well as the ability to trade with other condo owners. There are also plenty of sites to check out for rents of private homes as well as rentals of condos.

So if you have never thought of condo camping or private rentals you might want to do some research and see what you can come up with. For me, I like condo camping better than any other form of travel accommodations. Well, with the exception of totally luxurious with the inclusion of a butler, but, come to think of it, you can get that in a private rental too.

How To Install Granite Countertops

Granite is a hard, igneous rock that can be cut into different shapes and makes a perfect material for making countertops. It is not only beautiful, but also durable and resistant to heat. Granite countertops are a luxurious addition to any kitchen or bathroom. They are available in a range of beautiful and unique designs to choose from.

In the past, it was advised to hire a professional for the installation of a granite countertop. Now, many companies offer DIY granite countertops kits that you can install yourself. Here are a few steps to install a granite countertop on your own:

– Once your cabinets are installed and securely anchored to the floor and walls, use craft paper to take exact measure for your countertop. It is important to include one to one a half inch overhang for the edges which will be facing the cabinets. Granite countertops are available in a range of styles and colors. You should choose one on the basis of the overall design and style of the kitchen and color of the cabinets and flooring. Buy a countertop either from a local retail store or you can also order one online.

– Cut plywood to fit on the top of the cabinets to support the weight of the granite. It is important to make sure that the plywood is square and level. Then, use pilot holes to screw the plywood in place to prevent it from cracking.

– Granite is a heavy stone and may break if not handled properly. You can get assistance in lifting the counter to set it on the top of the cabinet. Make sure that the countertop fits well in the cabinet.

– After that, remove the granite and create a pilot hole in the mark sink cutout using a drill. Use a jigsaw to create a hole for the sink. Install the sink properly and make sure that it fits properly.

– In the next step, level the seams for the slabs. It is important that the seams are absolutely leveled before gluing. Use screws beneath the plywood to make adjustments to the height of the granite.

– Apply silicone around the edges of the plywood every 6 to 12 inches. Seal the granite by laying a bead of caulk around the outer edge of the sink and the top of the sink. Fix the granite slab into place to make sure that the seams are tightly matched.

– Use blue masking tape to tape over the seam. Fill the seams using a dollop of polyester based resin and add small amount of color. After that, pull off the masking tape so that the mixture doesn’t dry on the tape. Once the color dry, smooth the countertop with a seam stone until it becomes smooth.

To clean the granite countertop, use only mild cleaning products and avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures.

A Wonderful Japan Trip with My Family

After almost six months of working very hard, I'm taking my break to the premier city of Japan – Tokyo. Since I was a kid, I really wanted to go and visit the different exciting sceneries in this part of the world. I have been to Disneyland many times but that's in US, this time I want to see how Tokyo Disneyland fairs with that in America. Some of my friends, who have been there, already told me that there's not much difference between the two. However, I am not satisfied with their stories; I want to see it personally before my very eyes.

Since, this Tokyo Disneyland is one of the main attractions in Japan, I am bringing my whole family with me so that the children will be able to see the difference. My wife is also excited about this trip and she's preparing the things already. The children are also excited about our vacation because this will be their first time in an Asian country. Hopefully, after this trip in Tokyo, we can still go to Hongkong Disneyland as well as other tourist spots in Asia. But for now, Tokyo Disneyland is our main destination to have fun and enjoyment.

After my family and I visited the beautiful Tokyo Disneyland, I suggested that we visited Mt. Fuji. We were a bit disappointed since it's not one of the popular tourist spots in Japan like we thought. We then decided to visit Kinkaku-ji, the Temple of the Golden Pavillion located in Kyoto. It is the most famous of all tourists attractions in Japan. Some of my friends were shocked when I told them that Mt. Fuji is not the most famous attraction in Japan but Kinkaku-ji. This temple was said to be built originally in 1933 and served as home for retired Shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga. It became a Buddhist temple when the retired leader died. The temple is famous for having pillows over the lake which was designed to emphasize its place between heaven and earth.

It was also said that this Buddhist temple was reconstructed back in 1955 after a young Zen Buddhist set fire inside it. Reports said that the man despised beautiful things like the temple that's why he tried to destroy it. After the reconstruction, the temple became beautiful and spectacular. It's really stunning being wholly covered with gold leaf with a phoenix on top. Therefore, the Temple of the Golden Pavillion is another must-see attraction in Japan aside from Mt. Fuji. So, if I were you, I would start saving money for a chance to see this remarkable Japanese creation.

Travel Oahu – Experience Hawaii Like A Local

Every year millions of visitors from Japan, mainland USA and beyond land at
Honolulu International Airport ready to begin their vacation in paradise. Soon after
landing, most visitors hop in a cab or bus sent from the hotel and begin the journey
past downtown Honolulu and on to their reservation at a Waikiki hotel.

The allure of Waikiki is immediate. The packed streets, sounds of the beach, and
exotic histories call to the traveler who soon hits the streets. Venturing out in
Waikiki can be quite exciting. The streets are filled with foreign languages, throngs
of tourists are dressed in their beach best, and the beginning of surf history can be
seen at the end of the street. Waikiki can be so exciting that many visitors never
escape its imaginary borders. Approximately 6 million of these visitors miss the very
sites that locals find so endearing, remaining within the two square miles of Waikiki.

For those travelers interested in seeing Oahu through its residents' eyes, please
read on.

Magic Island Beach Park – This popular park is located just west of
Waikiki, across the street from the Ala Moana Shopping Center. The park includes
two beaches, a three mile jogging path, tennis courts, and more. A walk around the
park will expose the center of Hawaiian culture – the family. Large extended families
gather around hibachis, spending the day together with a good food and plenty of
sun. The beaches are significantly less crowded, so for a great day, grab a barbecue
and head down to the beach at Magic Island!

The Contemporary Museum Honolulu – This small museum is located
high on a ridge at Makiki Heights Drive. The drive up the ridge offers amazing vistas
that would otherwise be missed by most Oahu visitors. The relatively small museum
offers changing exhibitions in its five galleries. After traversing the galleries, visitors
can wander out onto the sculpture gardens. This is where the true glory of the
museum is revealed. The 3.5 acres of sculpture and meditative gardens are open to
the public and offer some of the most amazing views of Honolulu.

Leong's Cafe – Many visitors look to a lu'au for more than entertainment;
they are after some great Hawaiian food. However, if you're interested in real local
style Hawaiian food, you can not beat Leong's Cafe located at 2343 North King Street.
As a favorite for plate lunches, kalua pig, lu'au stew, lomi lomi, and more, locales
have been visiting this cafe for over 50 years!

Champion Malasadas – The local treat called Malasadas are so popular
that Fat Tuesday has been re-christened Malasada Day throughout the Hawaiian
Islands. One of the best and most famous bakeries is Champion Malasadas located
at 1926 South Beretania Street. These light portuguese hole-less donuts come with
and without filling and are absolutely worth the effort in getting them!

Honolulu Chinatown – A walk through the streets of Chinatown in like a
walk into another time and place. Whatever you are looking for dim sum, fresh
produce, handmade leis, or the new hip lounge, you are sure to find it in Chinatown.
The streets and shops are exotic, offering items not found in a typical american
grocery. Guided walking tours are available for this historic district, but often the
best way is to simply meander through the streets, stopping whenever your interest
has been piqued.

If you are interested in seeing Oahu through a local's eyes, be sure to spend some
time outside of Waikiki. Stop by some or all of the listed listed above and see some
of what truly makes Hawaii special.

London Travel Guide

London is everything you would expect from a Capital City with a lot of history and more, and the good news now thanks to the irresponsibility of bankers worldwide is that London is not as expensive to visit as it has been for the last 10 or more years .

The pound has not quite sunk without trace though, it still has some value but because the London's economy is so closely linked to banking and financial services the pound was hit pretty hard and that means that your dollar, yen or Euro is going to buy so much more.

When people talk about London or indeed England they usually mention rain, but because of global warm summers in London are warm to hot these days, and that makes sightseeing a dream and it has so many said old and new to see, the Queen and The London Eye are on the top of most people's list, but those lists will just go on and on.

One great way to take in most of the sights of London is a river trip, because like most very old cities London was built on first one then both banks of a river, in London's case the River Thames.

From a river boat you will be able to take in the Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, The South Bank Arts Complex, The Globe Theater a reproduction of a theater from the time of Shakespeare, the Tower of London while gliding effortlessly under famous bridges like London Bridge and Tower Bridge and of course see so much more.

As well as the river London is famous for large open spaces of green and you can escape from the almost constant noise of this City that simply refuses to sleep for a moment into the delightful parks like St. Louis. James' Park which lies behind Downing Street where the British Prime Minister has his official residence.

Surprisingly you can wander the length of the Mall and still be in St James' Park down passed Duck and even Pelican Ponds to Buckingham Palace where the Queen of Great Britain has her official residence.

You can even check to see if she is at home by looking to see if the Royal Standard is flying above the Palace. You will be lucky to see her 'at home' because because the Queen favors Windsor Palace which is about 20 miles to the west of London where it is quitter and less polluted.

London is a sightseers' dream, there is always something around the corner, from the blue plaque on the wall of the flat where Jimi Hendrix died at the back of Oxford Street to the beautifully restored St Pancras station now home to the International Rail (Channel) Tunnel) Rail Service but for so many years a derelict condemned building.

At night even more of London comes alive and as well as being able to enjoy some excellent free live music in the caf├ęs and bars there is the exciting sight of the river-scape alive with lasers lights and often fireworks.

London is not to be missed and that is why it is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and so it is probably no surprise that there are enough hotel beds in London to sleep the populations of dozens of major cities worldwide!

The surprise would be that most of these hotel beds are booked well in advance and so careful planning is required to get a great hotel at just the right price.

A good way to do that would be to use a website where you can compare prices and availability, though there are dozens of these here is an honest recommendation bookingspot.
