Discovering the Secrets Behind Highly Ranked Websites

In my last article I spoke about some of the very basic elements every well-optimized website needs to have in order to be ranked higher up in the search engines’ listings. To sum up that article very briefly, you need to make sure that your meta tags reflect your website’s content appropriately in terms that individuals might use when searching for your website. Also, pay close attention to the titles of each of your web pages. Too many people settle for using the same title for each page. Each page needs a different title utilizing different and appropriate keywords.

This article will take that basic understanding of the art behind search engine optimization to another level. Once you realize the importance of keywords and meta tags, you probably figured out that many of the major search engines rely much less heavily on keywords (they’ve been overused by spammers!) and look more closely at your website content.

“What?” you say. “I just spent all that time researching keywords and injecting them throughout my website!” Well, good. You need to take that first step in order to be able to continue further down the SEO path. Yes, Google, MSN, and Yahoo nearly ignore (yes, ignore!) the meta keywords, they don’t ignore the content in your web pages. And that content needs to be chock full of keywords.

Try this little bit of SEO research. Put yourself in the mind of one of your potential customers. Open your search engine of choice (you should probably be choosing one of the biggies because your customers most likely are) and search for your company using some carefully chosen keywords. Don’t use your website address. While searching for your exact website does provide some important information, that isn’t the focus of this little experiment.

Look carefully at the listings that come up. Who is ranked first? What is in the description next to the website? What keywords keep showing up again and again in your competition’s listings? Now, click on a couple of the top rankings. Look at how their website is designed. Do several keywords jump out at you immediately? They should. Take note of these keywords and their placement. Look at the code behind their websites (with different browsers this happens differently- usually it’s under a menu called view source or view page info). Inspect their meta tags and descriptive keywords.

Your head should be buzzing right now with ideas for ways to improve your website. Remember, search engine optimization is a step by step process. Like many things, it is never done. Right when you think everything is looking great, you’ll learn about yet another way to enhance your website’s ranking. Keep moving forward- a step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll see your website in Google’s top ten!

Self Defense Weapons – What Is The Best Weapon For Self Defense?

If you are thinking of purchasing a gun, or other “self-protection” device such as pepper spray or an alarm, then you are obviously concerned about your personal safety. You know it is essential to learn how to defend yourself, now more than ever! Today, not only do you have to worry about criminals, but now terrorists as well! What is this world coming to? Would you know what to do?

You may be thinking, “Well, I’ll just get a gun!” Unfortunately, real-world tests have shown that overall , weapons (or other “self-defense” products) are often ineffective when it comes to self-defense. Why?

There are many factors that contribute, but the main reason weapons are ineffective is, if the weapon is not in your hand at the moment of attack, you will never get the chance to use it! But, the law does not allow you to walk around with a gun in your hand, and most studies show that people soon forget to carry the various types of self-protection devices they purchase.

Even if you have a stun gun or pepper spray in your purse or pocket, if caught by surprise, you won’t have a chance to get it out before you get decked! Mace does you no good if it is still in the purse that just got snatched out of your hand! Tests prove that 90% of the time, you will never get the chance to reach for your weapon before you are hurt too severely to use it.

FBI statistics and Police reports from all over the country show that in more than half of all instances where the victim was able to get to a “weapon” (usually sprays are mentioned), the attacker knocked it out of their hand before they could use it. Police files are filled with tens of thousands of incidents of weapons taken away from the victim and used against them! It is estimated that almost one third of all gunshot victims are shot with their own gun! The figures are even higher when it comes to stun-guns and sprays.

This doesn’t even include all of the incidences where the victim shoots themselves! Accidental discharge is the leading cause of gunshot wounds in both crime and non-crime reports. You may think that wouldn’t happen to you, but the reports prove that it happens to even experienced gun owners.

I know of a Police officer, even after extensive training , the first time he tried to use Mace against an unruly suspect, ended up spraying himself.

Unfortunately, most people have little or no training as to the safe and proper use of the weapons in their possession. Inadequate, or even improper training is the leading cause of accidental discharge involving guns, stun-guns and sprays. What do you think will happen when they attempt to use that weapon under the stress of a real attack?

There are literally millions of incidents reported where the victim couldn’t get the weapon to work at all, mainly because of inadequate training! Even the most basic principles of weapon usage are often overlooked by owners. The figures are stunning (pun intended) of the number of incidents of stun guns that didn’t work when needed because of dead batteries!

There are thousands upon thousands of reports of guns that wouldn’t fire because the safety was on, and the user didn’t know, forgot, or was too panicked to figure it out in time. In at least one incident I am aware of, the victim couldn’t get his weapon to fire before the criminal took it away from him. Lucky for him, the criminal couldn’t figure it out either.

Defective or Fraudulent Products

I’m sure you have purchased products that didn’t quite work as advertised. How can you be sure that the pepper spray you buy will work as well as advertised, if at all? How will you test it? Spray yourself? Spray a friend? We’re not talking about perfume! I doubt you will get any volunteers to help you.

When the criminal attacks, it is too late to find out that the pepper spray is really just vinegar, or that the 10 million volt stun-gun doesn’t deliver much more of a shock than shuffling across the carpet and touching a doorknob.

If you buy a police radar detector that is guaranteed to work, but doesn’t, the result is a speeding ticket. If you buy “self-protection weapons” that don’t work, the result can be severe injury or even death. Relying on someone else’s guarantee is only a false sense of security that will only have bad results!

If you are serious about Self-Protection, your best self defense weapon is your mind . If you think about what has just been discussed, you will realize that ‘weapons’ will only help you in ideal situations, and even then, you need to keep a clear head to be able to use them properly.

But, crime doesn’t happen in ideal situations!

Being able to think clearly, and knowing what to do, is your best weapon when it comes to self-defense. Second best is being able to use your feet. Now, that doesn’t mean to start kicking! It means that at the first sign of trouble, you need to RUN! Escape is always a much better self-defense tactic than getting into a struggle or a fight.

However, if you can’t get away, your body is your best self-defense weapon! Since you cannot always have a weapon in your hand, it is essential that you know how to defend yourself without weapons. But mindless flailing against an attacker does you no good at all. You need to learn the most vulnerable points on the human body. But even that isn’t enough if you don’t know the most effective ways to strike them. You need to learn how to kick, not just where to kick.

Everyone should at least take a basic self-defense course .

What about Martial Arts?

Traditional Martial Arts are great for disciple, self-confidence, and exercise. They can help to produce the correct mindset needed when faced with a self-defense situation. But it usually takes several years to become proficient in the more complex techniques.

If you have the time to commit to a long-term training program, by all means, a martial art will provide the most comprehensive training. However, just as in choosing a self-defense weapon, you must do your homework before choosing a martial arts program. Many don’t deliver the comprehensive training they promise, and most don’t train you for realistic self-defense.

Far too many martial arts programs focus greatly on sports and competition. Sports and competition oriented martial arts are worthless as self-defense. They teach you to follow rules, and for the most part, there are no rules in a street fight. If you are conditioned to follow the rules, you can’t do what is necessary in a dangerous situation. In fact, you will probably do the wrong thing, and get yourself hurt or even killed.

Seek out a training program that focuses almost exclusively on realistic self-defense scenario training.

Knowing how to handle yourself when confronted with violence is your only insurance against becoming a victim, or just another statistic in a police report. You have car insurance, home-owner’s insurance, life insurance, health insurance…

What insurance do you have against being the victim of a violent crime? That type of insurance is only available through proper training. A long-term self-defense program offers the most comprehensive training, and therefore, the best opportunity to learn to handle almost any situation that may occur. However, if you don’t have the time to commit to a long-term program, at least some form of weaponless self-defense training is better than none.

Summary

If you are serious about self-protection, your best bet is to first learn weaponless self-defense. Then, if you still want to purchase a weapon, do your homework before choosing the best weapon for you, and don’t just read the instructions that come with it and think you are ready to use it.

  • Take a class on how to use it effectively, how to handle it safely, and how to maintain it so it works when you need it.
  • Take regular refresher courses so you don’t forget anything about the weapon.
  • Follow all maintenance procedures on a regular basis.

Your best bet is to learn weaponless self-defense and get the best weapon for you. Remember, you will never feel safe until you have all the tools necessary for self-protection. And the most important weapon of all is your own mind and body!

Why to Use a Metro Cab Service

There are number of reasons that you may want to use a metro cab service and here are some of the most common times when you may find yourself in need of them.

Getting home from a night out

Using a metro cab service is perfect for getting home safely after a night out. While some night time public transport, such as buses or trains may be operating in your area, they are likely to be few and far between. Even if they are operating, it can quite often encourage some of the more colourful characters and events, which can be frightening and even dangerous for some people.

Taking a metro cab service will remove this possible danger, by ensuring that you are dropped to your door by a fully regulated driver, with the knowledge that you will arrive back in a prompt and safe manner.

Particularly if you have been drinking, under no circumstance should you be trying to operate a car, even if you believe yourself to be in good enough shape. Along with endangering your life and others, you can also end up with a heavy fine or worse.

Travelling to and from the airport

While there may be other options available for travelling to or from an airport, none can boast the hassle-free approach that a metro cab service will provide. Able to pick you and your bags up and deliver you straight to your destination, there is no need to face a long and stressful trip on public transport with all of your bags.

Particularly so if you are arriving into an airport for the first time, the last thing that you want to be doing is trying to work out how to get from the airport to your destination, while most likely suffering from jet lag. If you are arriving in a new country then you may also want to take the safety of the metro cab service, as airports can be a honey pot for scam artists and other minor criminals.

Running late

If you are running late for work, or there has been a problem with the public transport that you would usually take, then using a metro cab service makes sense. With experienced drivers who are able to take the most efficient and least congested routes, you can arrive at your destination far earlier than with other alternatives.

There are several other instances that make metro services imperative for the travelers and the commuters.

Coffee Facts From The City of Seattle!

I was recently watching an episode of Bizarre Foods that had a lot of interesting facts and information on the Seattle coffee scene. People in Seattle take coffee very seriously, and they should! It has quite an interesting history there and a lot of fun facts. Today I will cover some the cool things I learned from watching this foodie show starring Andrew Zimmern.

First, Seattle is home to the very first Starbucks ever! Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 in the Pike Place Market, that is located in downtown Seattle. The original Starbucks location decided because the Market is a historic district with design guidelines, the store retains its original look from the 1970’s! It is a pretty cool looking place and I would love to visit this store someday. However, as the show pointed out Seattle is also known for all of its Mom & Pop coffee shops! That is what really makes the city an interesting coffee-lovers place to visit.

One of the most impressive coffee shops in Seattle is Seattle Coffee Works. Seattle Coffee Works showcases a cafe and a tasting room. It is a place known for experiencing and experimenting with coffee in its richly diverse forms and varieties. They call the tasting room their “Slow Bar” and the Slow Bar is a place to explore if you have a serious passion for coffee and new discoveries. They like to compare such as a French-pressed Costa Rican to a siphoned Tanzanian to a World Blend Espresso Blend that includes South and Central American, East African, and Indonesian coffees. This is a coffee experience that is truly one of a kind!

Seattle is also home to Sebastian Simsch, who is known for making coffee the old-fashioned way, by using what is called the vacuum coffee-making method. It is a very precise art that utilizes water at perfect temperatures, testing tubes, and a whole lot of skill. Just watching this man make coffee is exciting. On the show he brewed a cup of Colombia Cup of Excellence Coffee where the beans were harvested from a small family farm and cost over $100 per pound! Mr. Zimmern said it was quite possibly the best coffee he has ever had!

Seattle is also home to the makers of “The Slayer” espresso machine that costs upwards of $20,000! It changes the flavors of coffee by simply changing the pressure at which it is brewed. If you are a true coffee lover, like me, Seattle may be on your next vacation destination wish list!

My Great Personal Experience Staying in Hong Kong

Whenever I am required to travel, I am the most loved any time the location is actually Hong Kong. Therefore unnecessary to declare I have frequented it a lot more than simply a competent of instances. Throughout just about all my personal trips, Mandarin Oriental has often been my own personal favorite. I call to mind an event a couple of years in the past in one of my travels. My airline flight ended up being overdue and I arrived in Hong Kong very late in the night. When I landed, I was worried about my hotel reservation.

When I turned on my mobile phone and locked on to roaming, one of the texts I received had been from Mandarin telling me that they heard bout the delay and also had rescheduled my check in and since this was very late, now there would be a chauffeur ready for me when I departed the arrival lounge. Sure enough as I exited, I saw a hand poster with my name.

Inside of moments of getting out of the arrival hall, the cheuffer whisked me through the crowds and to the chauffeur driven car and drve me personally efficiently to the hotel. In the car, the cheuffer called forward in order to alert the hotel I was on the way. To my absolute amazement, the Hotel manager was waiting and whisked me straight up to my room. There had been absolutely no need to stop at the reception to check in. They told me that they would hand check-in the next morning because I should have been tired. As well as I was. The Mandarin Hotel is the greatest I could ever need.

Hong Kong is probably the earth's most diverse holiday location. It is a mix of commerce, heritage, customs, a food paradise and also a play ground for the youthful soul. For young children along with grown ups it provides activities abound.

My first time in Disneyland held unexpected prospects for me and I was not sure if this was a kid's thing or a family experience. Believe it or not, it turned out that Disneyland hotel ended up being my haven. In the event that you believe you have experienced lavishness, you have not seen anything at all yet till you've spent the night at the Disneyand Hotel. I could not help but feel as if I boarded a 5-star ship that transported me through the realities of this planet to the getaway splendor of a faraway planet.

During the entire vacation, while my family members enjoyed the activities and also the jolt of childhood as well as innocently wrapped within sophistication as well as comfort, I took the occasion to relax and get in touch with my own childhood.

At some other periods, to get the reason of selection, I do patronize other hotels. One of my personal other favorites is The Peninsula Hotel. This is the definition relating old school luxury, along with chauffeur driven Bentleys as well as Baroque era sculptures, no expense is sparred to make guests feel the opulence of colonial hospitality.

The hotel is about cradling every visitor in the lap of opulent luxury. From the ceilings in the actual lobby to your bath areas in each of the suites, almost everything is actually designed in order to make you remember that you are well worth it.

Antique Car Museum Guide – Virginia Car Museums

You don’t have to go far in the state of Virginia to find an antique car museum. Virginia is home to at least eight (or nine, if you stretch your definition of “car” to include tanks!). Here is a listing of all the vintage car collections I can find information on in Virginia.

The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum at the Luray Caverns traces the history of transportation in America. Items on display include horse-drawn carriages, coaches, wagons, and early automobiles. The automotive collection includes an 1892 Benz, a 1908 Baker Electric, a 1913 Stanley Steamer, and Rudolph Valentino’s 1925 Rolls Royce. You must purchase an admission to the Luray Caverns to get in to the museum. (540) 743 – 6551

The Roaring Twenties Antique Car Museum in Hood features 32 vintage cars on display, mostly from the 1920s and 1930s. The collection includes examples from Carter, Star, Stephen, Cleveland, Hupmobile, Paige, Nash, Essex, Packard and Cadillac. There are also horse-drawn carriages, old farm implements, and period advertising on display. (540) 948 – 6290

The Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke has cars and other vehicles from nearly every decade of the twentieth century. The museum focuses primarily on the railroad industry, but also has an aviation and aerospace section. (540) 342 – 5670

Fred’s Car Museum in Appomattox holds more than sixty five antique cars, dating from 1906 up to 1980. Highlights of the collection include a 1906 Schacht, a 1914 Saxton, a 1920 Piano Box Buggy, a 1936 Packard, and a very rare 1939 Lincoln V-12 limo. (434) 352-0606

The Accomack-Northampton Antique Car Museum in Parksley features a 1922 Durant, a 1935 Auburn, a 1956 Thunderbird, and lots of automobilia. (757) 665 – 6161

Eavers Classic Cars and Collectibles Museum in Staunton has over twenty classic cars on display, including a genuine 1965 Shelby AC Cobra, Elvis Presley’s last Cadillac, and a 1959 Devin sports car. (540) 337 – 1126

Old Cranks Motor Car Museum in Galax has a unique assortment of antique cars including a one-cylinder Orient Buckboard, a Detroit Electric and a Stanley Steamer. (276) 236 – 5114.

The Wood Brothers Racing Museum in Stuart covers 58 years of racing history. You can view the 1971 Purolator Mercury Cyclone, a 1989 Neil Bonnet Thunderbird, and a 1937 Glen Wood Ford Coach. There are also trophies, racing suits and helmets, and tons of other racing memorabilia. (276) 694 – 2121

The AAF Tank Museum in Danville doesn’t have antique cars, but I couldn’t leave them out! Their collection includes 117 tanks and artillery pieces, plus over twenty thousand other military related artifacts dating all the way back to 1509! (434) 836-5323

Quite a variety for the automotive enthusiast to choose from if you are passing through Virginia, or live nearby. As always, call ahead for information on hours and holiday schedules before making the trip.

5 Sexy Dresses From The 2017 Grammy’s

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards brought out the biggest names in music, and with it sex appeal has hit an all-time high for music’s biggest night. We will review the sexiest dresses from this years red carpet. Ladies wore everything from super seductive high-end designer dresses to vintage-inspired gowns. Let take a look at who stunned the crowd.

Jennifer Lopez stunned the crowd in a pink gown by Ralph & Russo. It’s vintage style showed class and sex appeal all at the same time. The slit to show of her legs along with it being sleeveless and showing off her mid-drift had the men in crowd going goo-goo eyed.

Celine Dion wore Zuhair Murad‘s curve hugging long emerald green dress with a high leg slit, with long sleeves and a plunging neckline. Of course you must mention her emerald green matching Gucci sandals and Dvani earrings.

Lady GaGA brings sex appeal to a whole new level in a skin-bearing look wearing black leather mini shorts and a black barely there top that only covered her shoulders and part of her breasts with a black ruffle/feather sleeve. This was by far the most provocative look of the Grammy’s.

Kristin Cavallari has a head turner in a plunging black dress with a tulle accent. This low cut dress showed off more than enough skin to make this list of five of sexy dresses from the 2017 Grammy’s.

Demi Lovato dress was something you would imagine a sex goddess would have wore a thousand years ago. The white stitching of the dress left many little holes throughout with gorgeous little rings holding the stitching together. Although the dress cover her from toe to chin it left much to the imagination. This is what Demi said,”There is nothing wrong with being confident. But there is a super fine line between “confident” and “the guts to wear an elaborate cat’s cradle that barely covers her pubis,” she definitely showed that she is confident and has guts.

These three outfits yes we will call them outfits because what Lady Gaga wore couldn’t be considered a dress, all show major sexy appeal. Every year different celebrities push the limits while others find a more classical medium. Either way all are there to make a statement and soak up the spotlight. With the Oscar’s only weeks away we are sure to see new sexy dresses worn by today’s diva’s.

Theme Travel Around Switzerland – Wine and Cuisine – Part 2

Valais. Delicious wines by the Rhone River

Sometimes the sun turns Valais into a Mediterranean country. This is one of the reasons why there are so many wonderful specialties produced here.

None of the other 22 cantons can boast of such culinary richness as Valais. The reason for this is its special microclimate and various types of soil. The canton combines territories of arid Mediterranean climate and Alpine grounds. No wonder why the highest European vineyard (1150 meters above the sea level) is located here, in Visperterminen.

Valais is the large wine-making canton. Two fifths of all the Swiss wines are produced here. Those are around 50 various wine types, including the old ones which you can hardly find outside Valais (such as Petite Arvine, Amigne, Humagne blanc or Humagne rouge). The most famous types of wine are Chasselas (made of Fendant) and Pinot noir. Syrah, produced at the upper arms of the Rhone River, is also getting popular.

One place to visit here is Château de Villa renowned for its wine cellar with a unique collection of more than 500 wine types. All of them are served in a special pleasant atmosphere. The castle is located 15 minutes walk from Sierre station.

A good starting point for your trip around Valais is its capital, Sion.

Ticino. Excellent wines in the south of Switzerland.

In the south of Switzerland, where they speak Italian, you will find palm-tress and rich Merlot wine. During the old times the lands between Gotthard and Lombardy were very poor. Food served in local cafes and restaurants was invented by the paupers of the past. Many delicacies that are now well acknowledged and evaluated, were prepared of the poor assortment of products local people had. Such were polenta, risotto or pesce in carpione – marinaded and grilled fish. Rabbit, salami, mortadella ticinese (meat cut), cicitt sausages and sweet pie called Torta di pane are classic local delicacies. Some years ago roasted chestnuts regained their popularity. Excellent wines are also produced here – for instance, local red wine is a true specialty. Those who used to love Bordeaux are now attracted by Merlot del Ticino from the barrel, with its distinguished taste. Less than one fifth of local wines are produced from other grape types. This list of wines includes Bondola, Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Chardonnay, Chasselas, Sauvignon and Semillon. Merlot bianco is especially distinguished.

When in Ticino, visit Fattoria l’Amorosa restaurant located on a 15-hectare terrace between Gudo and Sementina. Three hectares of its territory are occupied with Merlot, Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdit vineyards. Local wine cellar is placed in a rock and serves as an excellent storage for wines.

The capital of Ticino is Bellinzona.

Graubünden. Where the wind comforts vineyards.

In Graubünden they speak German, Italian and Romansh. The capital is Chur. This mountainous canton was greatly influenced by its neighbours from the north and the south. That is why there are so many delicacies here. Vine (including Blauburgunder (Pinot noir), Riesling and Chardonnay) wouldn’t grow here without warm winds. The most famous vine types are grown in Malans, Jenins, Maienfeld and Fläsch, but the only original local wine is Completer. Nowadays wine-makers produce such wines as Pinot gris and blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Caranoir.

Typical dishes, like all around the Alpine regions, are simple rural ones. However, they are very popular with tourists. Traditional Graubünden dried meat, cheese, barley soup, pizokel are delicious.

Alter Torkel wine bar is located 5 minutes from Jenins in the very heart of its vineyards. Vast choice of local wines, typical Graubünden snacks, and a small wine-making museum.

Cheap Seized SUV’s Auctions – Buy Quality SUV at Your Dream Price!

If you are looking to buy new or used sport utility vehicles or SUV’s, you will find this information useful. We know that SUV’s are usually quite expensive. But what if I tell you that you can buy SUV’s from auctions at bargain prices and the vehicles are only a few years old? You might have seen the ads promoting the seized SUV’s auctions that are available in every state and wonder where the seized SUV’s came from.

The truth is there are hundreds of seized SUV’s auctions that are usually held by police departments, government, IRS, DEA or some financial institutions but somehow a lot of people still don’t know and have let the car dealers take advantage of it for years. The car dealers buy the used SUV’s from these auctions and resell them to you. Anyway the SUV’s auctions are now open to the public and anyone can attend.

The SUV’s are seized by the police officers or some financial institutions from drug dealers or people who have financial difficulties. Actually these secret auctions are the best way for you to buy a quality SUV’s at the lowest possible price. The Police Departments & Government want to get rid of the vehicles as soon as possible and convert them into cash quickly. It costs a lot of money to store the seized SUV’s and keep them in good condition and the vehicles would continue to depreciate in value.

Seized SUV’s Auctions usually sell the vehicles ‘as is, and where is’ which means that what you see is what you buy, and what you buy is exactly what you get.

Advantages of Seized SUV’s Auctions

If you are worried that the vehicles might have been seized from violent criminals, then I can tell you that you don’t have to worry at all. These vehicles are usually seized because of a loan payment default, or driving with license suspended, or they could be the property of individuals or companies engaged in fraud, which means they are either newer models or in very good condition.

Disadvantages of Seized SUV’s Auctions

The big disadvantage is you don’t really know how long the vehicles have been sitting in storage or in a garage without maintenance. It’s possible that some of them could be there for a year without getting checked. The other thing is they also do not come with any warranties. To participate in the auctions you must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driving license. One big disadvantage of seized SUV’s auctions is that they can be time consuming. It can take a lot of time to locate the auctions, register and deal with all the paperwork, etc. However, there is a solution for that. It will make your life much easier if you join one of the car auction sites on the internet because they have gathered all the information needed for you. What you have to do is just select the vehicle online and enjoy bidding on your new SUV’s.

What will you get at the online seized SUV’s auctions?

o New & Used SUV start bidding as low as $100 or less.

o All makes & models of SUV are available.

Europe's New Jews

They inhabit self-imposed ghettoes, subject to derision and worse, the perennial targets of far-right thugs and populist politicians of all persuasions. They are mostly bound to menial jobs. They are accused of spreading crime, terrorism and disease, of being backward and violent, of refusing to fit in.

Their religion, atavistic and rigid, insists on ritual slaughter and male circumcision. They rarely mingle socially or inter-marry. Most of them – although born in European countries – are not allowed to vote. Brown-skinned and with a marked foreign accent, they are subject to police profiling and harassment and all manner of racial discrimination.

They are the new Jews of Europe – its Muslim minorities.

Muslims – especially Arab youths from North Africa – are, indeed, disproportionately represented in crime, including hate crime, mainly against the Jews. Exclusively Muslim al-Qaida cells have been discovered in many West European countries. But this can be safely attributed to ubiquitous and trenchant long-term unemployment and to stunted upward mobility, both social and economic due largely to latent or expressed racism.

Moreover, the stereotype is wrong. The incidence of higher education and skills is greater among Muslim immigrants than in the general population – a phenomenon known as "brain drain". Europe joins the best and the brightest – students, schools, scientists, engineers and intellectuals – away from their destitute, politically dysfunctional and backward homelands.

The Economist surveys the landscape of friction and withdrawal:

"Indifference to Islam has turned first to disdain, then to speculation and more recently to hostility … (due to images of) petro-powered sheikhs, Palestinian terrorists, Iranian ayatollahs, mass immigration and then the attacks of September 11th, executed if not planned by western-based Muslims and succored by an odious time in Afghanistan … Muslims tend to come from poor, rural areas; most are ill-educated, many are brown. politicians. They speak the language of the wider society either or not at all, so they find it hard to get jobs. Their children struggle at school. withdraw into their own world, (forming a) self-sufficient, self-contained community. "

This self-imposed segregation has multiple dimensions. Clannish behavior persists for decades. Marriages are still arranged – related brides and grooms are imported from the motherland to wed immigrants from the same region or village. The "parallel society", in the words of a British government report following the Oldham riots two years ago, extends to cultural habits, religious practices and social norms.

Assimilation and integration has many enemies.

Remittances from abroad are an important part of the gross national product and budgetary revenues of countries such as Bangladesh and Pakistan. Here their frantic efforts to maintain the cohesive national and cultural identity of the expats. DITIB is an arm of the Turkish government's office for religious affairs. It discourages the assimilation or social integration of Turks in Germany. Turkish businesses – newspapers, satellite TV, foods, clothing, travel agents, publishers – thrive on ghettoization.

There is a tacit confluence of interests between national governments, exporters and Islamic organizations. All three want Turks in Germany to remain as Turkish as possible. The more nostalgic and homebound the expatriate – the larger and more frequent his remittances, the higher his consumption of Turkish goods and services and the more prone he is to resort to religion as a determinant of his besieged and fracturing identity.

Muslim numbers are not negligible. Two European countries have Muslim majorities – Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. Others – in both Old Europe and its post-communist east – harbor sizable and growing Islamic minorities. Waves of immigration and birth rates three times as high as the indigenous population increase their share of the population in virtually every European polity – from Russia to Macedonia and from Bulgaria to Britain. One in seven Russians is Muslim – over 20 million people.

According to the March-April issue of Foreign Policy, the non-Muslim part of Europe will shrink by 3.5 percent by 2015 while the Muslim populace will likely double. There are 3 million Turks in Germany and another 12 million Muslims – Algerians, Moroccans, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Egyptians, Senegalese, Malis, or Tunisians – in the rest of the European Union.

This is two and one half times the number of Muslims in the United States. Even assuming – wrongly – that all of them occupy the lowest decile of income, their combined annual purchasing power would amount to a whopping $ 150 billion. Furthermore, recent retroactive changes to German law have naturalized over a million immigrants and automatically granted its much-coveted citizenship to the 160,000 Muslims born in Germany every year.

Between 2-3 million Muslims in France – half their number – are eligible to vote. Another million – one out of two – cast balloons in Britain. These numbers count at the polls and are not offset by the recorded efforts of a potent Jewish lobby – there are barely a million Jews in Western Europe.

Muslims are becoming a well-courted swing vote. They may have decided the last election in Germany, for instance. Recognizing their growing centrality, France established – though not without vote-rigging – a French Council of the Islamic Faith, the equivalent of Napoleon's Jewish Consistory. Two French cabinet members are Muslims. Britain has a Muslim Council.

Both Vladimir Putin, Russia's president and Yuri Luzhkov, Moscow's mayor, now take the trouble to greet the capital's one million Muslims on the occasion of their Feast of Sacrifice. They also actively solicit the votes of the nationalist and elitist Muslims of the industrializedized Volga – mainly the Tatars, Bashkirs and Chuvash. Even the impoverished, much-tested and powerless Muslims of the northern Caucasus – Chechens, Circassians and Dagestanis – have benefited from this newfound awareness of their electoral power.

Although divided by their common creed – Shiites vs. Sunnites vs. Wahabbites and so on – the Muslims of Europe are united in supporting the Palestinian cause and in opposing the Iraq war. This – and post-colonial guilt feelings, especially manifest in France and Britain – go a long way toward revealing Germany's re-discovered pacifistic spine and France's anti-Israeli (not to say anti-Semitic tilt).

Moreover, the Muslims have been playing an important economic role in the continent since the early 1960s. Europe's postwar miracle was founded on these cheap, plentiful and oft-renovated Gastarbeiter – "guest workers". Objective studies have consistently shown that immigrants contribute more to their host economies – as consumers, investors and workers – than they ever claw back in social services and public goods. This is especially true in Europe, where an aging population of early retirees has been relying on the uninterrupted flow of pension contributions by many migrant workers, many of them immigrants.

Business has been paying attention to this emerging market. British financial intermediaries – such as the West Bromwich Building Society – have recently introduced "Islamic" (interest-free) mortgages. According to market research firm, Datamonitor, gross advances in the UK alone could reach $ 7 billion in 2006 – up from $ 60 million today. The Bank of England is in the throes of preparing regulations to accommodate the pent-up demand.

Yet, their very integration, however hesitant and gradual, renders the Muslims in Europe vulnerable to the kind of treatment the old continent meted out to its Jews before the holocaust. Growing Muslim presence in stagnating job markets within recessionary economies inevitably generated a backlash, often cloaked in terms of Samuel Huntington's 1993 essay in Foreign Affairs, "Clash of Civilizations".

Even tolerant Italy was affected. Last year, the Bologna archbishop, Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, cast Islam as incompatible with Italian culture. The country's prime minister suggested, in a visit to Berlin two years ago, that Islam is an inherently inferior civilization.

Oriana Fallaci, a prominent journalist, published last year an inane and foul-mouthed diatribe titled "The Rage and the Pride" in which she accused Muslims of "breeding like rats", "sending and pissing" (sic!) Everywhere and supporting Osama bin-Laden indiscriminately.

Young Muslims reacted – by further radicalizing and by refusing to assimilate – to both escalating anti-Islamic rhetoric in Europe and the "triumphs" of Islam elsewhere, such as the revolution in Iran in 1979. Tutored by preachers trained in the most militant Islamic climates in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and Iran, praying in mosques financed by shady Islamic charities – these youngsters are amenable to recruiters from every fanatical grouping.

The United Kingdom suffered some of the worst race riots in half a century in the past two years. France is terrorized by an unpreceded crime wave emanating from the banlieux – the decrepit, predominately Muslim, housing estates in suburbia. September 11 only accelerated the inevitable conflict between an alienated minority and hostile authorities throughout the continent. Recent changes in European – notably British – legislation openly profile and target Muslims.

This is a remarkable turnaround. Europe supported the Muslim Bosnian cause against the Serbs, Islamic Chechnya against Russia, the Palestinians against the Israeli and Muslim Albanian insurgents against both Serbs and Macedonians. Nor was this consistent pro-Islamic orientation a novelty.

Britain's Commission for Racial Equality which caters primarily to the needs of Muslims, was formed 37 years ago. Its Foreign Office has never wavered from its pro-Arab bias. Germany established a Central Council for Muslims. Both anti-Americanism and the more veteran anti-Israeli streak helped sustain Europe's empathy with Muslim refugees and "freedom fighters" through the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

September 11 put paid to this amity. The danger is that the brand of "Euro-Islam" that has begun to emerge laTely may be decimated by this pervasive and sudden mistrust. Time Magazine described this blend as "the traditional Koran-based religion with its prohibitions against alcohol and interest-bearing loans now indelibly marked by the 'Western' values of tolerance, democracy and civil liberties."

Such "enlightened" Muslims can serve as an invaluable bridge between Europe and Russia, the Middle East, Asia, including China and other places with massive Muslim majorities or minorities. As most world conflicts today invve Islamic militants, global peace and a functioning "new order" critically depend on the goodwill and communication skills of Muslims.

Such a benign amalgam is the only realistic hope for reconciliation. Europe is aging and stagnating and can be reinvigorated only by embracing youthful, dynamic, driven immigrants, most of whom are bound to be Muslim. Co-existence is possible and the clash of civilization not an inevitability unless Huntington's dystopic vision becomes the basic policy document of the West.

7 Pros and 7 Cons of Audiobooks

I just finished my first audiobook. And it was an experience worth sharing:

I had been reading reviews and blog posts and tweets about Seth Godin’s newest book, Linchpin. Went to a couple of bookshops on my way to work/home; it wasn’t available. So I went to Amazon.com to order one. I was at Amazon after a long time, and was surprised to see the options available: Kindle (ebook download), hardcover, paperback, audio CD and audio download. Audio download looked like the fastest option so I checked it out. It took me to Audible.com – an Amazon company, where an audio download was being offered for just USD7.49 with a new membership! I signed up, paid the money, downloaded the book, and started listening to it right away! The benefits:

1. It’s fast. I was listening to the book after just a few clicks in few minutes.

2. It’s cheap. Book versions were USD13-25.

3. It’s convenient. I copied the file to my iPhone to listen during my commute to and from work.

4. It’s safe. A copy each on my computer, iPhone and backup is likely to last (damage-free) as long as I wish.

5. It takes no space. So less clutter. No worries about whether to keep, sell off, recycle or give-away.

6. It’s environment-friendly. No paper, ink, chemicals.

7. It’s comfortable. For someone who spends a lot of time in front of computers or books, this is a good break for the eyes. You can listen while standing, walking or lying down.

And the disadvantages:

1. You need technology – computer, Internet access, applications like iTunes, and power supply

2. You need a handheld device to maximize the use of audiobooks – iPhone, iPod or any other MP3 player

3. You need a credit card for online purchase

4. You can’t share. I love giving away my books to someone who might enjoy/benefit. Most audiobooks can’t be shared on multiple computers/accounts.

5. You can’t refer as easily. I like to go back to particular passages in my favorite books for inspiration/information/sharing. In audiobooks, you can fast-forward to chapters but it’s difficult to go to the exact passage you are looking for.

6. You can lose it easily – unless you have a good backup system.

7. You become anti-social. Your chances of interesting conversations with strangers greatly diminish if you go around with headphones in your ears.

On balance, I think it depends on your lifestyle, circumstances and even the kind of book you want to read. Please take a few minutes to share your views through comments: Have you tried an audiobook? If not, will you? What other pros and cons can you think of?

Two Easy Steps to Picking Horse Racing Winners With This Very Special Piece of Information

The piece of information is a section called LONGEST TRAVELLERS or TRAVELERS CHECK. This shows which trainers have traveled the farthest distance from their home base to the meeting in question.

The number miles traveled is clearly indicated, and we are going to concentrate on those trainers that have traveled 250 MILES OR MORE WITH JUST ONE HORSE.

Here is the simple procedure –

STEP ONE – Make a shortlist of those races where a trainer has traveled at least 250 miles with just one horse – these can be seen at a glance. Eliminate from the short list any race where two or more trainers featured in travelers check, with only one horse, are entered in the same races. Occasionally two trainers will travel a similar distance with the idea of winning the same race. Although we could split our stake and back both I prefer not to.

STEP TWO – Our next task is to list our short listed races in order of priority according to the amount of prize money on offer to the winner of individual races. Please note the distance traveled has no further bearing on our final selection.

That’s to say a trainer who traveled 300 miles with one horse receives no priority over trainer traveling only 250 miles. Therefore our days best bet can be defined as follows –

The race where one trainer has travelled at least 250 miles with just one horse for the least amount of prize money.

This system produces winners because the lower the prize money the more ludicrous the suggestion that the trainer will have gone to all the time, trouble and expense involved in traveling this distance for nothing.

People Verses Technology

With the recent upsurge of technology, many companies are employing these technologies in many of their operations including sales, record keeping and as far as customer service. Advertising and public are now done more effectively than ever, reaching more customers. Another big area that has also evolved with technology is customer service.

Organizations are now employing sophisticated methods to get feedback from customers and give the appropriate response. Some organizations have even gone too far in their bid to employ these sophistications in delivering customer service to their clients. Customer service is now run entirely by automated systems instead of human beings.

Google has reportedly been running most of its services by automated systems. Automated systems provide help to customers; disseminate information to customers and almost everything. Google Health is being run by an automated system, but offers no live help for the system. It means that sick people using this facility only get to interact with a piece of software and not a human.

The fundamental flaw here is that, software is designed to accept a predictable input and produce a predictable output. Human behavior is however unpredictable. If for instance, the health system is designed to prescribe malaria medicines for a patient reporting with a headache and fever. What happens if a patient walks in with a head but no fever? Provisions could have been made for such cases, but there will always be an element of unpredictability at play. A customer service system that suggests solutions may be ineffective when the user encounters a new problem that was not factored in the design of the system.

In any information system that will be used by people, it is very cruel to offer human help to customers, although it may come at a higher cost. Google must be able to offer human help for its facilities as humans are in a better position to handle unpredictable situations than software and hardware.

5 Expert Ways to Increase Traffic Without a Budget

The content you create is one of the most important aspects when starting a blog, new website or business online. However at the end of the day promoting your content and getting traffic to your site is the most crucial element to convert your visitors to customers.

With over a billion active websites in the internet today the competition is fierce and is basically a numbers game. Meaning the more traffic you have the better your chances of surviving and thriving online.

In order to compete in this field you need to create better content, provide more value compared to your competition and finally make sure your audience finds your content by having a clear marketing strategy. Focusing on great content alone will not lead you anywhere.

This can be enhanced by adding a share button. A chain reaction can be started by sharing your content online and can be used to kick off an organic campaign that might even go viral.

Follow the One-in-Seven Rule.

This rule has been applied by several companies over time and still holds true even though it sounds as a cliche. This rule states that one in seven posts should be a promotional post. The rest of the six posts should focus on value content and aim to inform your audience about your niche.

Get Your Customers’ Opinions.

You should seek to make the questions engaging and interesting. This will enable you to identify the market needs and preferences. This will help you gear your content towards providing solutions the these needs.

The clients may in the long term move to a different platform and end up ditching you when they find out you are not genuine.

2. Respond to comments.

Engaging with customers and website readers is important but most companies more often than not ignore this.
